Dominant Weekend for Number One Brand on Tour
Marlborough, MA-April 14, 2008 – The 2008 Masters Champion survived the brutal wind and the pressure of a Sunday at Augusta National to secure a three-shot victory. The first South African native since Gary Player to win at Augusta led wire to wire with traction provided by CHAMP Spikes’ Pro Stinger™. The Pro Stinger, the industry’s only true hybrid spike, gives professional golfers the security of a metal spike with the comfort and many of the course-friendly qualities of non-metal spikes.
With the best players in the world crowding the leaderboard at the Masters on Sunday, it was no surprise to find one common thread between them – CHAMP Spikes. The top three finishers all wore different CHAMP spike models; the champion chose Pro Stinger; the runner-up, traditional metal; third place, CHAMP’s most popular spike – the new and improved Scorpion Stinger™.
In all, CHAMP Spikes were worn by the top six finishers and eight out of the top ten. Overall, more than 40 total players at Augusta National chose CHAMP Spikes. The win continues a dominating streak for CHAMP, which has now claimed victory in seven straight Masters Tournaments and 17 of the past 19 majors.
Additionally, the top three finishers all wore shoes that utilize CHAMP’s patented Q-LOK® fastening system, the quickest and most reliable fastening system on the market today. The Q-LOK System, currently utilized by Nike, Hi-Tec and ECCO, is a threadless fastening system that allows all Q-LOK spikes to be attached with a simple ¼ turn clockwise and removed with a ¼ turn counter-clockwise.
“This is a great victory on numerous fronts,” said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. “To have the top three finishers use our spikes, as well as shoes with our Q- LOK fastening system, is phenomenal. That they were all wearing different spikes is a perfect example why we are the number one brand on Tour. We provide golfers with a variety of options in traction technology, from our hybrid spike to traditional metal all the way to our incredibly popular Stinger. Having our spikes worn by the winner of the Masters is an honor that never gets old. At least it hasn’t for the past seven years.”
