Players Compete for More Than $90,000 in Prizes at Premier Clubs Throughout Ontario
(TORONTO) – Golf Town – Canada’s largest golf retailer with unequaled selection and competitive prices at 38 locations coast to coast – announces the 2008 Golf Town Amateur Tour, April 29-September 30, featuring stops at premier clubs throughout Ontario including Devil’s Pulpit, Georgian Bay Club, North Halton, Piper’s Heath and The Rock.
Having increased its membership 100 percent each season, the Golf Town Amateur Tour is open to players with handicaps up to 22 and features 15 one-day events, including two majors and a final championship at The Georgian Bay Club, September 22-23.
At each tournament, the field is broken into four divisions based on skill level and limited to 120 entrants, who compete for nearly $4,000 in Golf Town gift cards, as well as points in the season-long Order of Merit competition. To view a complete schedule of events or register for the Tour, golfers can visit www.golftowntour.com.
"The Golf Town Amateur Tour is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for participants to play in a well-organized, competitive event series," says Stephen Bebis, President and CEO of Golf Town. "The Tour furthers our role as a centre of the Canadian golfing community by bringing together passionate amateurs at marquee courses throughout Ontario."
In addition to Golf Town gift cards awarded to the top four finishers in each division, every tournament will feature random drawings for prizes that include TaylorMade clubs, ECCO golf shoes, Sky Caddie units and dinner for two at il fornello. The Order of Merit winners will be crowned at the Tour Banquet on September 30, based on points earned by Tour members during their best six showings in the season’s first 14 events.
"The Tour has become the country’s most popular amateur series, and provides golfers with several opportunities to compete throughout the season, as opposed to a single club championship," says Mark Young, President of Canadian Golf Tours Inc., organizer of the Golf Town Amateur Tour. "It is an excellent way for players of all handicaps to forge their competitive and recreational games."
Golf Town offers an unbeatable selection of the world’s leading golf brands in clubs, bags, balls, apparel, footwear, accessories, gifts, promotional services and more, such as Adams, Bridgestone, Callaway Golf, Cleveland, Cobra, Dunning, ECCO, FootJoy, Founders Club, Gordon Cooper, Greg Norman, Honma, Hugo Boss, LaCoste, Liz Claiborne, LIJA, Mizuno, Nike Golf, Odyssey, Ogio, Paradise, Ping, Sun Mountain, TaylorMade adidas Golf, Titleist, Wilson and more.
