PLANO, TEXAS, April 21, 2008 – By winning his second straight Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am title on Sunday, Adams Golf Tour Staff Pro Tom Watson’s combined win total on the Champions Tour and PGA TOUR climbed to 50. This was Watson’s 11th Champions Tour victory, his first in 2008. He won 39 times, including eight majors, on the PGA TOUR.
Watson started the final round three shots back from the leader and finished at 9 under par, one stroke ahead of fellow Adams staffer Scott Hoch. Playing with a complete bag of Adams Golf clubs, Watson finished the tournament ranked first in Greens In Regulation and 18th in Driving Distance. He played the Idea Pro Forged Irons, two Idea Pro Hybrids, an Insight Tour 3-wood, the Redline RPM Dual Driver and two Tom Watson Signature wedges.
Watson’s victory was the 6th Champions Tour win in 2008 for the Adams Golf Tour Staff. Of the first nine events of the season, Adams Golf representatives Jerry Pate, Scott Hoch (2), Bernhard Langer (2) and now Watson have taken up consistent residency on the final round leaderboards. As with its tour pros, Adams Golf equipment remains consistent by capturing the #1 ranking on the hybrid count at the event; the latest in a long, unbroken line of hybrid count wins dating back to the end of the 2005 season.
Adams Golf also continued its hybrid leadership position on the PGA TOUR by winning the hybrid count at the Verizon Heritage Classic in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Nearly 30 percent of all hybrids in play at the event were Idea hybrids. This was the 14th hybrid count win of 2008 for Adams Golf, according to the Darrell Survey.
As the Nationwide Tour started up again after its off-week, Adams Golf hybrids continued to be the favorite of the field. With a total of 69 Idea hybrids in play or 45% of the category, Adams more than doubled the second place company, which put 27 in play. The company’s streak of hybrid count wins on the Nationwide Tour dates back to the summer of 2006. Four players who finished in the Top 10 played at least one Idea hybrid, including the Idea a3 and the Idea Pro.
