Ochoa and new PING putter on record-setting roll

April 23, 2008

April 22, 2008; Phoenix Arizona: PING Pro Lorena Ochoa, who added the new PING Redwood® ZB™ putter to her bag to begin the season, tied the LPGA record for wins in consecutive weeks when she captured the Ginn Open by three shots. Her fourth win in a row, and fifth in six events this year, equaled the mark set 45 years ago by LPGA legend Mickey Wright.

Ochoa’s remarkable run began with a successful defense of her title at the Safeway International in Phoenix. She followed with wins at the Kraft Nabisco Championship-her second straight major win-and the Corona Championship in her home country of Mexico. Her 11-shot win in Mexico made her eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame in 2012.

The Redwood ZB, one of two new models added to the popular putter series this month, is 100% milled from 303 stainless steel. The heel-shafted model is angled slightly heel-to-toe and features a small cavity and low center of gravity.

“I’ve been making a lot of birdies this year,” Ochoa said following her record-tying win. “So I think it was a great change.”

The rest of Ochoa’s bag included a PING Rapture® Driver, G10™ 3-wood, Rapture 5-wood and 21-degree Hybrid, S58® Irons and two Tour Wedges.

To commemorate her major win, Ochoa will be presented a solid gold version of the Redwood ZB model by PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim. For her other four wins, the 26-year-old receives gold-plated replicas of the ZB model. Gold-plated duplicates of all five putters will also be housed in PING’s famed Gold Putter Vault, which currently includes more than 2400 putters commemorating PING putter wins over the years.

At the Ginn Open, Ochoa relied on four rounds in the 60s to finish 19 under par. For the week, she recorded 22 birdies en route to claiming the $390,000 winner’s check.

It was her tenth win in 15 starts since claiming her first major championship at last year’s Women’s British Open. Her average margin of victory this year has been more than seven shots.
