International Tour Stars Langer, Watson Headline 2008 Golf Town Invitational
(TORONTO) – Golf Town – Canada’s largest golf retailer with unequaled selection and competitive prices at 38 locations coast to coast – announces the 2008 Golf Town Invitational charity tournament will be headlined by Tour stars Bernhard Langer and Tom Watson at Toronto’s Magna Golf Club, on Monday, June 2.
Benefiting the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (PCRFC), the 2008 Golf Town Invitational will raise funds to help fight prostate cancer and increase awareness of the most common cancer in men. The event is limited to 26 foursomes, with exclusive opportunities to participate still available by contacting the PCRFC at 416.441.2131.
“Based on the tremendous success of our inaugural Golf Town Invitational in 2007 we’ve decided to make this tournament an annual tradition,” says Stephen Bebis, President and CEO of Golf Town. “The event not only supports a tremendously worthy cause, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for passionate golfers to share an intimate day with two of the game’s greatest players.”
Sponsored in part by Rogers and Ericsson Canada, the event’s highlights will include participant pictures with the headlining professionals, a nine-hole tournament, awards luncheon and clinic conducted by the Tour stars, followed by a nine-hole exhibition match and cocktail reception.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to interact with Adams Golf staff players Langer and Watson, who are both members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. A former European Ryder Cup captain, Langer is a two-time Masters champion. Watson has claimed eight majors and was the world’s No. 1 player from 1978-1982.
Among the largest charitable givers in the Canadian golf industry, Golf Town has donated more than $2 million since opening its first store in 1999. Together, the Annual Golf Town Invitational and Golf Town Charity Classic raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to benefit the PCRFC (www.prostatecancer.ca).
