Disabled Golfer Scores Hole-in-One Playing from SoloRider Golf Car

April 25, 2008

NIAGARA FALLS, ON – Frank Peter got lucky not once but twice earlier this month while playing the Battlefield Course at Legends on the Niagara. His first stroke of good fortune came when he made his first hole-in-one on the 103-yard, par three 14thhole. His second lucky break came after the round, when he discovered the course restaurant had closed for the day.

“I got lucky; I didn’t have to buy a round for the house,” the 41-year-old Peter, who is paralyzed from the chest down, said with a laugh.

Actually, Peter’s luck began to change several years ago when he discovered the SoloRider golf car. “I did a lot of research online and tried out a couple of different brands,” said Peter, a zoning examiner for the City of Hamilton. “The independence I feel on the golf course with this car makes the game exponentially better.”

Before discovering the SoloRider, Peter played golf about three times a year from his wheelchair, which limited his access on the course. Now he takes the SoloRider golf car anywhere he needs to go on the course and plays his shots without leaving the comfort and safety of the golf car.

Once an avid tennis player, Peter was so impressed with the SoloRider golf car, which features a stand-up seat that swivels and hand controls for braking and accelerating, that he bought one for himself and started focusing on his golf game. Now that the Niagara Parks Commission has purchased a SoloRider, Peter often leaves his golf car at home.

“I play about 45 rounds a year now,” said Peter. “Last year, 30 of those rounds were at Legends soley because of the SoloRider.”

SoloRider president Roger Pretekin says Legends on the Niagara and Peter demonstrate the economic benefits of the golf car.

“Disabled golfers go where they can play the game safely and comfortably,” Pretekin said. “A SoloRider’s return on investment is measurable in financial as well as human terms.”
