The Two Former Masters Champions Finish 2nd and 3rd in the Champions Tour?s Oldest Event
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (April 28, 2008) – Craig Stadler and Ian Woosnam, and their respective team partners, finished 2nd and 3rd in the venerable Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on the PGA Champions Tour event in Savannah, Georgia.
Stadler teamed with Jeff Sluman to shoot 30 under par and finish one stroke behind the team of Tom Watson and Andy North in a contest that stayed in doubt all the way to the 54th hole. Woosnam and his partner Sandy Lyle finished just a stroke behind at 29-under over the three-day event.
Woosnam has been associated with ProQuip since 2006, when as captain of the European Ryder Cup Team he consulted on the design of the ProQuip rain and wind apparel worn by the winning European team. Stadler just recently signed as an endorsement partner for ProQuip. The two join Jim Furyk and Juli Inkster as ProQuip ambassadors on their respective professional golf tours. Furyk has been one of the hottest players on the PGA TOUR, with three Top 10 finishes this year.
The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, the tournament that launched the Champions Tour, has grown to become a "legend" itself over the last 29 years. The inaugural Legends of Golf event was won by Sam Snead and Gardner Dickinson in 1978.
