With summer just around the corner, now is the time for golfers to seriously consider on which island to spend on their golf vacation. When you think “island golf” you probably picture Hawaii or some other tropical destination. But the word “island” doesn’t always equal swaying palms and surfers hanging ten, a sand wedge away from the fairway. After all, golf was invented on an island where the weather is anything but balmy.
Regardless of the weather conditions, island golf does conjure up images of seaside golf courses. From the dramatic dune scapes of Irish links courses to the
wave-crashing Paspalum-seeded courses of the Dominican Republic, many of golf’s greatest (and most photogenic) layouts incorporate Mother Nature’s largest water hazards in their routing, which makes them the perfect locations to take the family on a summer vacation and score some time on the golf course as well.
In the May issue of Golf Tips Magazine, the editors have pinpointed the best island golf travel locations for the upcoming summer season. Starting on page 84, the GT staff gives the scoop on locations from Ireland to Hawaii, along with each island’s standout characteristics and how to get the best deals on traveling there.
“Getting to play the best courses in the world is every golfer’s dream,” said Dave Brennan, publisher of Golf Tips Media Group. “Most of us will have to make choices on which ones we’ll have the time and opportunity to play. Knowing which destinations to prioritize, when to go, and having some quality local knowledge about the course and the area before you go is hard to come by. Over 50% of our print audience reported that they include golf in both their personal and business travel, so at Golf Tips, we’ve taken on the mission to help our readers sift through their choices.”
For the golf traveler who isn’t quite “feeling the island vibe,” the May issue of GT also offers a guide to golf vacationing in Idaho, the state they believe has emerged as golf’s newest hot spot.
