Youngsters and Stinger Dominate
Marlborough, MA-May 5th, 2008 – CHAMP Spikes, the number one brand on Tour, reports that the winners of the PGA’s Wachovia Championship and the LPGA’s SemGroup Championship both wore Scorpion Stinger™ spikes. The new improved Stinger provides players with greater traction and stability and less clogging than other spikes.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, it was the winner’s first career PGA Tour victory. The 22-year-old set the new Wachovia Championship 72-hole scoring record at 16-under par 272, as well as the record for margin of victory. The champion, wearing Scorpion Stinger spikes, became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in six years, shooting a final round 3-under 69 to cruise to five-shot win over his closest competitor. He is the fifth first-time winner on the PGA Tour in 2008.
A look inside the numbers reveals that CHAMP was just as successful on the leaderboard and throughout the entire field this past weekend. An astonishing 79% of the players who wore CHAMP spikes chose them over the spikes that originally came in their shoes. Eight of the top eleven finishers chose CHAMP.
On the LPGA Tour, it took two holes of a sudden death playoff before the 21-year-old champion, wearing pink, could make her way to the winner’s circle. It was no coincidence that the winner chose CHAMP’s pink and white Stinger, designed and manufactured for the second annual Pink on the Links™ program. Pink on the Links is a breast cancer awareness program taking place this week on all Tour stops, including The PLAYERS Championship and the Michelob ULTRA Open.
At the Open de Espana in Seville, Spain, CHAMP again dominated the European PGA field and leaderboard. Eighty-nine of the 156 players, or 57% of the field, chose the CHAMP brand for their spike of choice. Eight of the top fourteen finishers wore CHAMP spikes.
