COLUMBIA, Md. — When 153 women collegiate golfers tee off in the first round of the 2008 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship May 9 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., they will be adorned in shirts designed by 18th Couture, the newest and most exciting designers in the golf apparel industry.
“We’re honored to be a part of this wonderful championship,” said 18th Couture Founder and President Germaine Bolds-Leftridge. “This gives us an opportunity to let these fantastic young women familiarize themselves with our designs. The pure numbers tell us that some of these girls aren’t going on to professional careers in golf, but they will have careers in other professions and that’s what we’re all about, allowing women to make a stylish and functional transition from the office to the golf course without having to totally change outfits.”
This is another aspect in which 18th Couture is making serious inroads in collegiate circles. Recently Bolds-Leftridge delivered the keynote address at the Women in Golf Foundation dinner in late April. Women in Golf Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes women in golf and whose signature focus is on the development of women collegiate golf teams and identifying career opportunities within the golf industry and other corporate positions.
“I spoke to these young women about entrepreneurship and what it takes to succeed,” she explained. “I spoke about the importance of having the right attitude, about being fearless, but intelligent and that failure means nothing. The speech went well and a lot of people came up to me afterward with a lot of good questions.”
More importantly, they came to Bolds-Leftridge with orders.
“Several colleges asked us to design uniforms for their women’s golf team and we’ll be pleased to do it,” she said. “Events like these are tremendous marketing tools for us. It’s great for branding, so we’re glad to be a sponsor. No job is ever too small for us and we’re ready to grow inch by inch.”
