The Reserve Vineyards in Oregon to Host Finals for EWGA Championship Presented by Calloway Golf
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, May 7, 2008 – The EWGA Championship presented by Callaway Golf and considered the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the United States, has started at local chapters of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA). From April 26 through July, depending on the area’s golf season, local competitions will be held by the more than 120 EWGA chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
At the chapter level, EWGA members compete in individual stoke play in five flights based on USGA handicaps and a scramble team competition. Low gross and low net winners in each flight and the winning scramble team then compete in one of 15 semi-final competitions held throughout the United States. (see locations below). Semi-final winners will compete in the 36-hole championship finals at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon on September 26 – 27, 2008.
“The EWGA Championship is a premier event for women of all playing ability levels. For some of our members who did not grow up playing sports, this is one of their first experiences in competitive play,” says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. “The growth and continued excellence of the EWGA Championship demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing women with more opportunities through the game of golf.”
Now in its 13th year, this annual competition had 2447 participants in 2007 and is conducted by the EWGA Championship Committee. Comprised of volunteers from throughout the country and EWGA staff, the committee was the recipient of the International Network of Golf (ING) Tournament Service award in the prestigious 15th Annual ING Industry Honors Awards given out at the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show in January.
“We welcome Callaway Golf as our presenting sponsor and anticipate that this year’s competitions will set a new participation record, culminating in another exciting two-day Final,” says Swensen. “This year, we have added a tournament for non-competitors so those who want to join in the excitement and cheer on their friends also can play some golf.”
Since its founding in 1991, the EWGA has touched the lives of more than 85,000 women by providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. This not-for-profit association delivers a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for new and experienced golfers to nearly 20,000 members at over 120 local chapters throughout the United States and international chapters in Canada and France.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and its membership, visit www.ewga.com
