MUSKOKA, ONTARIO – May 13, 2008…The Rock Golf Club, a Marriott Golf-managed property and one of the premier resort destinations in Ontario, and throughout Canada, today announced that the award winning 18-hole Nick Faldo design will officially re-open on Thursday, May 22, after undergoing a series of refinements designed to further enhance the playing experience for golfers of all skill levels.
Highlighting the refinement project was the strategic redesign of six holes to feature modified approach shot views and increased landing areas, while eliminating certain blind shots and sloped landing areas. Additional renovations included the expansion of tee areas and widening fairway landing zones, all designed to increase visibility, maximize playability, and improve shot-making opportunities, while still maintaining the integrity of The Rock’s original, challenging layout. The overall project included alterations to 14 total holes, the removal of 16,480 square feet of surface rock, and the reconstruction of all greenside bunkers.
“Refinements made to The Rock will enhance the overall playing experience for golfers of all skill levels,” said Greg Downer, Director of Golf, The Rock Golf Club. “We have been eagerly awaiting the completion of this project and I am confident that the enhancements will offer a challenging and fair test of golf, further establishing The Rock’s reputation as one of the most spectacular courses in Canada.”
Originally opened in 2004, and sculpted out of breathtaking pine forests and stunning granite cliffs on the shores of Lake Rosseau in the Muskoka region, The Rock has been revered for both the challenge it provided to golfers, as well as its all around natural beauty. Following the re-opening of The Rock is the grand opening of The Rosseau, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa, which is slated to occur in late summer. The first-ever JW Marriott Resort Hotel in Canada, golfers will enjoy additional world-class amenities as the 221-room resort will include a spa, marina, a 700-acre nature reserve, and much more.
