SAN FRANCISCO-Grandma knows best, so the saying goes. Well, D.B. Temple took his grandmother literally when she urged him to take up golf. He did, and now many years later, D.B is taking his grandmother’s advice one step further by giving back to San Francisco youngsters as he acquired the rights to the fastest growing at-school, after-school golf enrichment program that can be executed in the least amount of space.
D.B. Temple, a San Francisco PGA professional and former Director of Golf at The Presidio Golf Course, acquired the San Francisco County rights to Total Golf Adventures, which is a national golf enrichment program conducted at-school, after-school environments throughout the country.
TGA has put more than 36,000 K-8th grade students through its programs, impacting more than 1.2 million people through parents, schools, and siblings. There are TGA 41 programs in 23 states with more than 1,500 schools participating. There are also TGA programs operating in Marin County and San Jose (Silicon Valley).
“The important attributes of TGA’s program for San Francisco is the ability to teach golf in limited space at the schools, day-care centers, YMCA’s and any other existing facilities,” says Temple. “With limited space in San Francisco schools, I am excited to bring the golf course to the schools through TGA’s unique program. TGA programs are being conducted indoors and outdoors on tennis courts, roof tops, hallways and playgrounds all over the country. ”
D.B. was introduced to the game by his grandmother and started playing golf at age ten and is now a veteran golf professional of over 15 years. He played competitively in college at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix while earning a B.S. degree in Finance prior to turning professional. Since that time D.B. has been a Head Professional, Director of Golf and General Manager of five facilities including Pelican Hill Golf Club in Orange County, CA and The Presidio in San Francisco.
Having conducted junior camps and lessons since he was just 14 years old D.B. has a passion to see young people succeed in the game and receive all the benefits of this great game while growing up playing golf.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring TGA’s enrichment and transition programs to the City of San Francisco; it’s a perfect fit for our schools”, says Temple. “The goal for TGA of San Francisco is to introduce and teach as many kids as we can to the game of a lifetime. We are going to show them how fun it can be to play, socialize, compete and grow with the social values intrinsic to the game.”
Total Golf Adventures (TGA) (www.totalgolfadventures.com) was founded in 2003 with a mission to provide all K-8th grade students with access into the game of golf through the first at-school, after school Golf Enrichment Program.
TGA is one of the fastest-growing sports franchises and junior golf companies because the traditional barriers of convenience and cost that prevent 90% of children from playing golf are eliminated when golf is brought to the schools.
TGA’s 5 Level Golf Enrichment Program, developed by Golf Professionals and Education Experts, teaches the fundamentals, rules and etiquette of golf, while promoting golf’s life values through our character development initiative, “Play the Fair Way with TGA.” TGA transitions students from their schools to the golf course by offering camps, tournaments, clinics and private lessons.
TGA supplies its Territory Owners with the tools they need to succeed while building a strong base of corporate supporters which supply a variety of services and products to TGA territories. Just added to a growing list of corporate partners/sponsors is Staples® which provides printed marketing solutions for all TGA territories. Already participating with TGA is: Nicklaus Golf Equipment, the official provider of junior golf clubs and Garb, Inc., the official provider of apparel for participants and staff.
Total Golf Adventures is endorsed and named as the official junior golf initiative by the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) and the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA); is a national supporting organization of the After School Alliance and Lights on AfterSchool, are a corporate advocate and a partner of the President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness.
