Tiger Woods Could Be Next ‘Vegas PGA Tour Star’
Currently there are about two dozen golfers that play on the LPGA Tour and PGA Tour who either live in Las Vegas or have strong ties to Las Vegas golf courses. That number grows when you count those beating around the mini tours. Now that list could increase by at least one more as Las Vegas Review-Journal celebrity reporter NORM! reports that Tiger Woods is looking at a home in The Ridges in Las Vegas, a posh area in Summerlin, an area that features several Las Vegas golf courses. Tiger has a long history with Las Vegas so it would be no surprise if he had an official home here. “I’ve always loved Las Vegas and I’ve always felt good vibes there,” Woods told VegasGolfer Magazine writer Roger Graves recently. “I have some great memories of Vegas–on and off the golf course.”
Tip Top Legacy Golf Club Hosts US Open Qualifier
Las Vegas’ Legacy Golf Club is an Arthur Hills design with cool holes, especially the par 3, 10th hole where the tee boxes are in the shape of each suit in a deck of cards, and the Devil’s Triangle, made up of holes 11-13. And this week, the course played host to 91 aspiring golfers looking to make it all the way to the US Open. The field was stacked and included a former US Amateur champ, some of college golf’s best players, a few former PGA Tour players, and a whole lot of others who can golf their ball. “We’re very proud to host the US Open Qualifier,” says Tom Vold, General Manager of The Legacy Golf Club. “The Legacy sets up well for high-caliber golf tournaments with plenty of length, good all-around conditioning and a challenging complement of golf holes. The USGA must agree; they’ve held the event here 9 or 10 times now.” Read on for the top six who moved on. Thelegacygc.com
Lady Rebel ‘Wins’ Regional; Team Goes to Finals
UNLV freshman sensation Therese Koelbaek tied for medalist honors and the Rebel women’s golf team finished third at the NCAA West Regional. The third-place finish by the Rebels ensured the squad of their third trip to the NCAA Championships, as they finished with a 54-hole total of 879 (288-290-301, +15). The top eight teams and top two individuals not on qualifying teams from each regional advanced to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 20-23 at the Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. “We are so excited to be heading to Albuquerque,” UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. “That was obviously the goal we set at the beginning of the year and to see it become a reality is so great. I am so proud of these girls. They have worked so hard.”
