ALLGOLFTV (www.AllGolfTV.com) in partnership with GreenFees, previously announced all entries for the Geeky Golf Girls Web Video contest should be received by May 15th, 2008. The deadline for entries has been extended to December 1, 2008.
With the blessing of Dr. Wanda Dann, who is has recently assumed leadership in the Alice program team, has given her approval to GreenFees and ALLGOLFTV to organize the 1st Annual Randy Pausch Golf Tournament benefiting Pancreatic cancer research, The Alice Program, and the Junior Golf Industry. Dr. Dann’s leadership as a computer science educator has been recognized in her various roles as SIGCSE, Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education, Technical Symposium publications editor, special projects chair, program chair, and symposium chair. She is now a member of the SIGCSE Board.
Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a student’s first exposure to object-oriented programming. It allows students to learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated movies and simple video games. In Alice, 3-D objects (e.g., people, animals, and vehicles) populate a virtual world and students create a program to animate the objects.
This contest is designed to introduce more school age kids to the world of Junior Golf and Computer Science while raising awareness and money for the Alice Program and research on pancreatic cancer. Dr. Randy Pausch, who is suffering from the illness, has been interviewed by Diane Sawyer about his world renowned presentation at Carnegie Mellon University called “The Last Lecture”, also a book, which was recently named #1 bestseller by USA Today.
An announcement of the contest is being emailed to numerous teachers and school administrators throughout the nation. All K-12 school age children are eligible to enter the contest and submissions should be created and directed around the junior golf industry, whether that is junior golf apparel, junior golf tournaments, school golf clubs, etc.
The contest winners will be awarded various scholarships and prizes including broadcasts of winning videos on ALLGOLFTV. Links to contest rules are available on ALLGOLFTV and Green Fees (www.GreenFees.com). The date and location of the tournament will be announced mid December.
