Outstanding Performance and Durability Combine with Exotic Good Looks on New Custom-Only Shaft

SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (May 2008) – Known in the golf industry for its obsession with quality, Japan-based Nippon Shaft has developed a deluxe lightweight steel shaft that marries the company’s unparalleled technical quality with an exotic, new-age style.

Nippon Shaft will distribute the N.S. Pro 999GH exclusively to the company’s specialty network of 125 North American installation centers, according to Hiro Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft’s North American operations.

“Nippon Shaft is very excited to be able to provide the N.S. Pro 990 to our network of custom club makers,” Fukuda said. “The custom club maker serves many of golf’s most discriminating and demanding players, who are looking for every advantage to improve their games. And they are demanding Nippon Shaft products.”

The N.S. Pro 999GH is based on Nippon Shaft’s award-winning design of the N.S. Pro 950GH shaft, the first sub-100 gram shaft to provide the stability and accuracy of a much heavier shaft. A lighter shaft normally translates to increased club head speed and, hence, increased distance.

The N.S. Pro 999 features an ion-plated, metallic bronze finish that provides increased durability compared with the traditional chrome-plated shaft, Fukuda said.

In addition, the N.S. Pro 999 is an ascending-weight product, with steel shafts in hybrids and long irons (3 and 4) weighing 98 grams, middle irons weighing around 100 grams, and short irons and wedges weighing 109 grams, Fukuda said.

“By engineering a lighter shaft in hybrids and long irons, we are trying to help the golfer increase his club head speed on clubs that are the most difficult to hit,” Fukuda said. “With a heavier shaft in the wedges and short irons, we are trying to maximize stability, control and accuracy with the scoring clubs.”

Like all Nippon Shaft products, the N.S. Pro 999GH is made in Japan. The minimum advertised price on the N.S. Pro 999GH is $149 per shaft. For information on the locations of authorized installation centers visit shaftology.com.

Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia with more than 80 percent of the market and ranks No. 2 in North America. Currently, more than 100 touring professionals worldwide use Nippon Shaft products, resulting in more than 50 victories in the last three years, Fukuda said. All shafts sold by Nippon Shaft are made in Japan in order to maintain the highest quality labor and technical expertise.

Nippon Shaft is a subsidiary of privately held NHK, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer based in Yokohama, Japan. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Schaumburg, Illinois.
