PLANO, Texas – May 29, 2008 – With 102 Idea hybrids in play at the Senior PGA Championship last week in Rochester, N.Y., Adams Golf established a new single event record. The previous record for one company’s hybrids in play at one event was 87, also owned by Adams Golf. By surpassing the 100 benchmark the company reinforced its leadership position in the hybrid category on tour.
There were a total of 156 golfers in the event and 54 of them played at least one Idea hybrid, including second-place finisher Bernhard Langer. Thirty-two players carried multiple Idea hybrids sometimes three and four of the Adams Golf products, often replacing the 3, 4, 5 and even the 6 iron. It’s a trend that has quickly gained traction across the pro tours and in the amateur ranks as well making the Idea hybrid iron lineup, specifically Idea Pro Gold, Idea a3 and a3OS, one of the top-selling iron franchises on the market.
“We’ve been able to make great strides across the board on the pro tours because of our investment in product research and development,” said Tim Reed, vice president of R&D. “We’re seeing more and more better players put two or three hybrids in their bags and that is being recognized by the amateur golfers who are finding that the performance and playability of hybrids is much better than the traditional irons they’ve been playing. And we’ve positioned our product line of Idea hybrid iron sets to be available when they’re ready to make that transition.”
Adams Golf has enjoyed a number of years as the equipment company of choice for the professional senior golfers, often times winning the overall wood count on the Champions Tour. So far in 2008, Adams Golf’s appeal across all major U.S. pro tours has grown having won the hybrid count at 17 of the first 23 PGA Tour events, including the Masters, along with winning the hybrid count at every Nationwide Tour event.
