CHAMP Kicks off the Summer with Wins on Three Tours

Marlborough, MA-May 28th, 2008 – Memorial Day wasn’t the only special event observed this weekend as the winners of the LPGA, PGA and European Tours all celebrated their successes while wearing CHAMP Spikes. A variety of CHAMP products were present this weekend as the winners of both the LPGA Corning Classic and the PGA Crown Plaza Invitational chose CHAMP’s Scorpion Stinger™, while the champion of the European BMW Championship chose CHAMP’s

green friendly metal Cermec®.

At the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial, the top five finishers all sported spikes from the Stinger family. Four of the top five opted for the new and improved Stinger which provides players with greater traction. The fifth chose the Pro Stinger™, the industry’s only hybrid spike, which combines the traditional feel of a metal spike with comfort and stability of today’s plastic spikes.

A 9-foot birdie putt on the 18th sealed the deal for a final round 2-under, 68, that gave the world’s #2 ranked golfer his second victory at Colonial. A closer look at the numbers reveals that CHAMP dominated the leader board as well as the field as 73% of the players who wore CHAMP spikes, switched from the spikes that came in their shoes as original equipment.

Across the pond in England, at the BMW PGA Championship, it was a battle to the finish as the CHAMP Cermec wearing winner made a birdie putt to clinch the title on the 2nd playoff hole. A whopping 62% of the entire field, including the top four finishers, counted on the CHAMP brand for their traction needs.

It was a heart pumping sudden-death playoff on the ladies side as CHAMP’s Stinger and a birdie putt helped give the title to the event’s ninth first-time champion. The LPGA Corning Classic saw more then 50% of the top 20 finishers showing off their CHAMP spikes.

“I don’t know how you can show tour domination in any other way,” said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. “Three tournaments, three winners and three distinctly different traction requirements. The proof of our tour success comes on Sunday when you look at who is hoisting the trophy over his or her head and what spikes he or she is wearing. In most cases it’s CHAMP, the number one brand on tour. That’s something we’ll never get tired of seeing.”
