Westford, Massachusetts and New York, NY (May 28, 2008) – Today, PUMA® and Maxim Magazine announced the launch of The PUMA Open, a national golf event series unlike any other golf tournament. The global sportlifestyle brand, which is known for fusing the influences of sports, lifestyle and fashion, launched The PUMA Open as a way to shake up the traditionally stodgy sport and offer an inclusive and fun way to enjoy the game of golf, mixing the sport with gaming and fun activities. PUMA partnered with Maxim Magazine, the largest young men’s lifestyle magazine in America. The PUMA Open will visit six cities across the country beginning in June through October including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Austin. Teams of four will compete for great prizes, gifts and the grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to the Maxim Bungalows in the Dominican Republic.
The PUMA Open is a non-traditional golf event where teams of four compete in a nine-hole scramble, meant to test not only your golf know-how, but also your wit and skill. Participants must sign up to play in teams of four. Men and women over 21 are both eligible to play, from novice to expert golf players. The nine-hole scramble includes a mix of “traditional” golf holes where PUMA will test your golf skills mixed with a few golf hole challenges such as “Lucky 7” where participants must play the entire hole with their Seven Iron or the “On The Clock” Hole where the team who plays the hole in the shortest time receives a prize. After a round of golf played the PUMA way, participants will continue their adventure and go “all in” through a series of Vegas-style card games. The foursome that has combined best golf score and highest winnings at the gaming tables will win the ultimate grand prize – an all expense paid luxury trip to the Maxim Bungalows – Maxim’s exclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. Throughout the entire day, PUMA and Maxim keep the energy flowing with drinks, food, music and tons of prizes and gifts. A registration fee of $50 for each player is required and space is limited. Don Julio Tequila will be mixing cocktails and sponsoring the “Know Your Tequila” Hole. Function Drinks, an innovative beverage brand that was created by physicians and employs all-natural, functional ingredients with real benefits, will be supplying fun drinks such as “Urban Detox” and “Shock Sports.”
AlmostGOLF, creators of the revolutionary new golf ball that allows golfers to play and practice practically anywhere, will sponsor one of the golf holes called the “AlmostGOLF Hail Mary.” RCA Small Wonder will be the event’s official digital camcorder partner, allowing participants to capture their experience at the “On The Clock” video hole. RCA Small Wonder will be providing digital camcorders to the hole winners and through the technology of the new RCA Small Wonder camcorders participants upload their videos directly to the internet or share it via email. And PUMA licensee partners, PUMA Time and PUMA Eyewear will be participating with prizes.
