Course to Help Identify State’s Best During Prestigious Championship
(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) – SouthWood Golf Club – the award-winning public course at the heart of one of Tallahassee’s most comprehensively designed communities – will host a qualifying event for the 91st Florida Amateur Championship on Tuesday, June 10.
As one of 13 qualifying sites around the state, SouthWood will hold an 18-hole tournament, with top finishers advancing to the finals at Jupiter Hills Golf Club in Tequesta, June 19-22. Spectators are welcome to attend the qualifier, with golfers teeing off at SouthWood beginning at 8 a.m. Measuring 7,172 yards from the back tees with a USGA Slope rating of 135, SouthWood will offer a solid test to competitors.
Conducted by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) and one of the nation’s most venerable regional amateur championships, the Florida Amateur attracts the state’s finest non-professional golfers. Noteworthy former champions include Jerry Pate, Bob Murphy, Gary Koch and Chris Couch.
“The Florida Amateur is a prestigious event which always draws an outstanding field, and we’re proud to serve as a qualifying site this year,” says Mike Durst, Head Professional at SouthWood. “Our course will be in excellent summer condition and will present a fair, thorough challenge for the competitors.”
Managed by Billy Casper Golf, SouthWood annually hosts the Tallahassee Amateur Championship and serves as a home to the Florida State University men’s and women’s golf teams. For more information about SouthWood, visit www.southwoodgolf.com.
