Kenny Perry’s relentless pursuit for victory came through this Sunday with his 10th career win, as he claimed his 3rd Memorial Tournament victory. Prior victories were in 1991, 2003, and now, 2008. Tiger Woods is the only other player to win 3 Memorial Tournaments.
Over the past few weeks, Perry has flirted with 2 near victories. With the poise, confidence and tenacity of a true Champion, Perry persevered in his quest to become victorious at the Memorial Tournament with a 4th round 69, winning by 2 strokes. In being very vocal about wanting to make the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Perry knew his real chance of earning a position was with a victory. He certainty achieved that goal this weekend, and is now ranked 5th in Ryder Cup Standings. A native of Franklin, Kentucky, Perry wants to represent the U.S. and his home state as the event is being played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. This victory certainly puts him at the forefront of consideration by Captain Paul Azinger.
Moving into his 22nd year on the PGA Tour, Perry has never lost his tour card and is 9th in total career earnings. The win this weekend, using the Zero Friction golf tee, has moved Perry into 4th place in FedEx Cup points for this season with a total of 10,442, a jump up 15 spots from last week.
Kenny Perry has triumphed on the golf course in his own performances, but has also received awards such as the Charles Bartlett Award, an award given to a professional golfer for unselfish contributions to the betterment of society, in 2002. Perry also donates 5% of his winnings to Libscomb University in Nashville, TN to provide student scholarships. Founder and owner of Excel Golf Products, Inc., maker of the Zero Friction tee and Tocarè grips, John Iacono, is very proud of the successes that Kenny Perry has had not only in the PGA tour, but as a modest gentleman. Iacono spoke about a recent encounter with Perry, “At this year’s Northern Trust Open I had the opportunity to have dinner with Kenny Perry and his lovely wife, Sandy. This was a wonderful experience. Perry is quite possibly the most humble, non-pretentious man on the planet, PGA pro or not. As a sponsor of him, it is a great thrill to be associated with Kenny. His demeanors off the course, as well as when playing are that of a true professional and the type of person a sponsor can be proud of. Kenny has been using our Zero Friction golf tees and Tocarè grips over the years. We greatly appreciate his support and wish him continued success.”
