Camps, Tournaments held in Concert with ‘Play Golf America Family Golf Month’
(WATERSOUND, Fla.) – The St. Joe Company announces the Origins Course at WaterSound – a ground-breaking “concept” course designed for families and beginners by Davis Love III – and Tom Fazio-designed Camp Creek Golf Club will host a variety of summer programs in concert with the PGA of America’s Family Golf Month in July.
Families across the country are encouraged to play golf together during “Family Golf Month,” a Play Golf America program designed to provide a structured, yet casual opportunity for families to learn the game. Launched in 2004, Play Golf America is a player development initiative focusing on new and occasional golfers — a combined group of 31 million individuals.
“Family Golf Month is about growing the game from the junior level up, and engaging golfers in multi-generational play,” says Jaxon Hardy, head professional at Camp Creek. “The Origins Course’s unique layout – with six regulation holes, an executive course set-up, and 10 par 3s –and non-penal design provides the ideal setting for our summer programs.”
The following family and junior programs are offered this summer:
Junior Golf Camps (8 years and up) – These four-day camps run Tuesday-Friday at Camp Creek and Origins Course, with sessions from June 17-20, June 24-27 and July 8-11. A tournament preparation camp for experienced juniors is offered at the Origins Course July 14-17 (Monday through Thursday). Camps are open to members, resort guests and homeowners at $175 per participant and include PGA instruction, instructional booklets, visors, golf balls, refreshments, daily prize drawings, contests and a hamburger and hotdog party
Beginner Teens Tournament (open to the public) – Junior golfers age 11-18 are invited to play in this two-person scramble, held every Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Camp Creek throughout the summer months. Novices and first-time golfers are welcomed, with clubs provided at no extra charge if needed. The fee is $15 per player (cart fee is extra).
Family Golf Outing Afternoon at The Origins Course (open to the public) – Starting at 2 p.m. each Wednesday in July and August, a golf professional will tour the course offering instruction and tips to family members. Regular adult and junior rates apply.
Family Promotion (open to the public) – All summer, kids 15 and under play free at The Origins Course when accompanied by a paying adult.

About The Origins Course at WaterSound
The Origins Course at WaterSound’s mission is to make golf more fun, accessible and attractive to families, beginners and casual golfers. A six-hole regulation course that alternatively plays as a nine-hole executive course and a ten-hole par 3 layout, The Origins Course was conceived with the “short course” concept at its core. Designed by Love Golf Design, founded by PGA Tour player Davis Love III, the course is consistent with the Scottish origins of the game, in which six, nine and 12-hole courses were commonplace. The Origins Course appeals and caters to novices via its non-penal design and manageable distance of approximately 1,800 yards. Yet its regulation-length holes and traditionally wrought green complexes provide enough challenge and strategy to retain the interest of experienced golfers. Turfed with “Sealsle Supreme Paspalum,” which requires fewer chemicals for weed and pest control, The Origins Course supports St. Joe’s commitment to environmental sensitivity and preservation.
About Camp Creek
Since opening in 2001, Camp Creek has been consistently cited as one of Tom Fazio’s most thought-provoking, aesthetically-stunning design credits. Featuring a unique “dunescape” appearance, the course was created as a private club for members who are owners of St. Joe selected communities and resort guests of St. Joe’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach resorts. From the back green tees, the course plays to a championship caliber yardage of 7,159 and a formidable slope rating of 152. Camp Creek’s five-tee configuration, which also includes gold (senior) and red (women’s) tees, accommodates players of all skill and experience levels. Travel + Leisure Golf recently recognized Camp Creek as “Florida’s No. 1 Course of the New Millennium.” It has also been recognized for its environmental stewardship through designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). Superintendent Larry Livingston was similarly distinguished as a certified Audubon Steward.
