CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 6, 2008) -TaylorMade-adidas Golf is again providing its Tour Staff professionals participating in this year’s Major Championships with specially logoed hats and staff bags, including at the U.S. Open Championship. Both hats and bags feature a logo specially designed by TaylorMade that pays homage to the particular tournament and the particular venue at which it is being played. Replica versions of the hats and staff bags, as well as a stand bag that also features the TaylorMade Summer Commemorative logo, are available for sale at select retail locations. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price are: hat–$24.99, staff bag–$499, stand bag–$189.
Fans can also qualify for the opportunity to win a free Summer Commemorative staff bag in TaylorMade’s “2008 Summer Commemorative Staff Bag Giveaway” sweepstakes by registering at www.StaffBagGiveaway.com starting on May 23, 2008. Seven bags will be given away, with the winners announced the week following the U.S. Open. Sweepstakes registration is free and ends on June 15, 2008.
Two specially logoed bags have been created for each TaylorMade Tour Staff player playing in the U.S. Open. After the event, each player keeps the bag and autographs the other. All autographed bags are sold to a private collector, and the proceeds are donated to the First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Foundation that creates new facilities and access to golf with a special emphasis on kids who otherwise may not have an opportunity to experience the game.
“This is the seventh consecutive year that we’ve created special logos commemorating the Major Championships,” says Craig Barez, TaylorMade’s creative director. “It’s become a tradition for us, and remains a way for us to pay respect to these great tournaments, the venues at which they’re played, and the history that makes them great. Creating this year’s Summer Commemorative logo was even more special to us because this year the U.S. Open is being held at Torrey Pines, just 20 miles away from TaylorMade headquarters, and a course that many of our employees love and play frequently.”
Summer Commemorative Logo
As always, TaylorMade’s Summer Commemorative logo blends elements from the U.S. Open history and the tournament site, which this year is Torrey Pines. About TaylorMade’s 2008 U.S. Open logo:
* A bell tower, which symbolizes the 21 missions founded by Franciscan missionaries in southern California from 1769 to 1823, including Mission San Diego de Alcala, located in San Diego.
* The number 3 positioned on the bell tower window; No. 3 is the signature hole at Torrey Pines
* Two surf boards, which symbolize San Diego’s beach culture
* Two palm trees, which symbolize San Diego’s warm and sunny year-round climate
* “WB” – the initials of William “Billy” Bell, Torrey Pines’ architect
* The hat features a cloth tab embroidered with the number 1, a reference to this year being the first time that Torrey Pines has hosted a Major Championship.
