Won seven times for Boise State this season
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 8, 2007) – Troy Merritt, who won seven tournaments this year for Boise State University and finished the season with a 69.53 scoring average, has signed a management agreement with Gaylord Sports Management. Player Manager Peter Webb will handle Merritt’s business affairs.
“We’re doubly happy to be representing Troy,” said Webb. “He’s an outstanding young man with a great personality and work ethic, and he’s ranked among the very top collegiate players of 2008. We see tremendous upside for him on and off the course.”
Merritt won 12 events at Div. II Winona (Minn.) State University in two years before transferring to Boise State and winning once as a junior. This season he won seven times, including five straight to close the season with Western Athletic Conference Championship individual title.
Merritt the led the NCAA in several statistical categories and his 69.53 scoring average was the best raw average in the nation. At the West Regional last month he missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship as an individual when he made birdie on the first playoff hole but lost to an eagle.
“I thought about playing amateur golf this summer,” said Merritt, 22, “but decided the time to turn pro was now. I’m looking forward playing professionally and with the help of Peter and Gaylord Sports getting to work right away on the PGA, Nationwide and perhaps Canadian tours.”
