Ninth Marriott Golf Property Becomes Audubon Certified As Part Of Company’s Recent Mandate Program
ORLANDO, Fla. – June 9, 2008…Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, today announced the next property to become Audubon Certified, as part of the Company’s efforts to ensure that all managed golf properties in North America and the Caribbean become Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries by the end of 2008. The Frog Golf Club, one of the leading courses in Georgia located just outside of Atlanta, has become the ninth Marriott Golf managed property to achieve certification through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses.
Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries, which enable golf facilities to protect the environment by enhancing precious natural areas and wildlife habitats, are part of a systemwide commitment by Marriott International, Inc. (MAR:NYSE) to promote environmental stewardship. In order to achieve Audubon Certification, a golf facility is required to demonstrate that it is maintaining the highest degree of environmental quality in several areas including Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management.
Recognized as one of Georgia’s premier golf facilities, this Fazio designed masterpiece is carved from deep woods and features pristine bentgrass greens, offering a pure American golfing experience. As part of the property’s efforts to become certified, The Frog has implemented a variety of programs, highlighted by the creation of 50 bluebird houses strategically positioned around the property to encourage bluebirds — which are becoming rare to the area — to reestablish their species in the region. Further, a flourishing garden was created in the center of The Frog’s residential community for the enjoyment of members and residents alike.
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat, and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, and Southeast Asia have achieved certification in the program.
