GILBERT, AZ – When Yani Tseng and Maria Hjorth stepped onto the first hole of sudden death Sunday at Bulle Rock in Maryland, it would end up taking four playoff holes to see who would become the winner of the LPGA Championship.
But one thing was certain before they ever struck the first shot – the winner would be carrying a headcover by Butthead Covers on her bag.
As it turns out, Tseng became the second youngest player ever at 19 years, four months to win an LPGA Tour major championship by sinking a 5-foot birdie putt. And she proved you could have a little fun along the way by carrying a special McDonald’s French Fry headcover by Butthead Covers.
This was a custom cover requested by their promotional products distributor, Golf Plus, whose client had tried several other companies but were not satisfied with the quality of the prototypes.
“We take great pride in designing this to their standards,” said Alice Scott, President of Butthead Covers. “It is crazy how many emails and calls we have had today asking to buy a French Fry cover. Of course, it is licensed by McDonalds, but we hope to have a future outlet for it, perhaps involving a contribution to the Ronald McDonald House.”
Alice and husband Danny, who together created the Butthead Covers concept four years ago, watched the LPGA action from their living room on Sunday.
“Danny and I were on the edge of our seats,” said Alice. “We have watched Maria carrying the horse for four years and would love to see her win a major, but then Yani had the special French Fries cover and is such a great young player as well. It’s like watching your own kids competing on the course. So many of the LPGA gals carry our covers at different times. Having volunteered at the Phoenix LPGA event for 8 years, we are proud of all the gals on tour and how far the LPGA has advanced with audiences. We feel blessed to have advanced as a company along with them.”
Danny and Alice will be competing in a major event themselves this September, in the International Pairs World Finals in St. Andrews Scotland. They earned the right to represent the USA against two dozen other countries by winning the ING International Pairs Qualifier at the 18th Annual ING Spring Conference last week at Atlantic City Country Club. The non-profit International Network of Golf conducts the annual conference, and the qualifier for International Pairs Worldwide.
Danny and Alice have blended years of extensive corporate training and leadership experience with their passion for life, golf and family. Cover categories include Through the Woods, Wet and Wild, Exotic, Cats and Dogs, Wings and Stings, Funny Farm, Custom, Corporate, Etc., The Tiny Hiny Line and Bootyful People.
