Rookie Thrived on Superb Driving Distance and Accuracy with Tour AD PT-6 Model

(SAN DIEGO, California) – The winner of the McDonald’s LPGA Championship played Graphite Design’s Tour AD PT-6 shaft model in her driver, according to the Darrell Survey, routinely hitting long, straight tee shots en route to the title

A 19-year-old rookie, the McDonald’s LPGA champion parlayed outstanding driving distance and accuracy into a 12-under-par total, winning her first major title in a sudden-death playoff. For the week, she found more than 80 percent of fairways while averaging 271 yards off the tee at the difficult Bulle Rocke Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md. The winner fired weekend rounds of 65-68, easily the best total in the field over the final two days.

A third-place finisher also used Graphite Design’s Tour AD PT-6 model in her driver, hitting a remarkable 89.2 percent of fairways for the week. Since switching to the Tour AD PT-6 earlier this season, the player – ranked No. 2 in the world — has notched four top-three finishes, including a pair of wins.

“Being part of a major championship victory is always special, and we congratulate the McDonald’s LPGA winner on her achievement,” said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. “Like many professionals, she chooses a Graphite Design driver shaft to get maximum results in distance and accuracy without sacrificing feel. Our design and technology produce premium results for the full range of golfers, from the world-class to the weekend player.”

Throughout the coming week, Worldwide Golf Shops will offer a Father’s Day special on Graphite Design’s new Tour AD YSQ shaft models at its Roger Dunn and Van’s Golf Shops. Customers buying one Tour AD YSQ shaft will receive a Tour AD YSQ hybrid model free of charge. Worldwide Golf operates 38 retail stores on the West Coast – visit www.worldwidegolfshops.com for more information.

Graphite Design – maker of some of the most widely played premium shafts on the PGA TOUR -unveiled the Tour AD YSQ to rave reviews from OEM representatives, customers and media in January. The Tour AD YSQ features advanced Axial Composite Interlace (ACI) construction, delivering superior performance in four key areas: launch angle, spin rate, accuracy and distance.

The company also launched the Graphite Design Fantasy Golf Tour 2008, where contestants pick their favorites in the PGA TOUR’s five biggest tournaments for a chance to win $100,000. Entering the Graphite Design Fantasy Golf Tour is free and requires only a quick registration via the company’s newly redesigned web site (www.gdintl.com, click on Fantasy Challenge).

In 2007, Graphite Design shaft models propelled professionals to a combined 45 victories on the PGA, Nationwide, Champions, Japan and LPGA tours. Among those relying on Graphite Design shafts were the world’s No. 3-ranked men’s player, the No. 4 women’s player, the winner of the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Cup points title, and seven of the top eight money earners on the Japan Tour. Graphite Design reinforced its dominance on the Japan Tour, where it has claimed 158 consecutive graphite wood shaft brand counts — an unprecedented streak which dates to 2002. On the PGA TOUR, Graphite Design shafts have helped professionals earn 54 victories and more than $290 million since 2004.

Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. In 2007 the company introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
