LAKE MARY, FL – Timacuan Golf Club and the Mike Bender Golf Academy in Lake Mary have the perfect answer to summertime boredom for Orlando-area kids.
The Junior Golf Camps will teach kids all the fundamentals of the great game of golf, from tee to green. The juniors also will learn the valuable lessons of rules and etiquette that can carry over to their everyday lives.
Two different schedules are offered based on skill level. A pair of thee-day camps will be held for youngsters that are new to the game. They are scheduled for June 16-18 and July 14-16. For juniors who have already received instruction or who have played on the golf course, five-day camps are scheduled for June 23-27, July 7-11 and July 21-25.
The camp sessions are for kids between the ages of 6 and 16. They run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by lunch at the club. Nate Stevenson and 2006 LPGA National Teacher of the Year Cheryl Anderson will head instruction. Further instruction will be provided by Ty Krieger, Tony Miller and 2007 Golf Digest top 50 Instructor Mike Bender.
Fees are as follows: 5 Day Sessions: $225 for Timacuan members and current academy students, $250 for non-members. 3 Day Sessions: $125 for Timacuan members and current academy students; $150 for non-members. Lunch, prizes and a goody bag are included.

The Timacuan community and club are located off Rinehart Road near State Road 46-A in Lake Mary. Timacuan has been ranked among the top 15 courses in Florida. Designed in 1988 by Ron Garl and refurbished by Bobby Weed in 1995, Timacuan is a par 72 that features two distinctly different nines.
Prior to starting work on the layout, Garl spent time in Scotland studying Links-style architecture, and that research is very evident on Timacuan’s front nine. Sprawling bunkers, generous landing areas, oversized, undulating greens, and framing mounds combine to create a challenging and memorable nine holes.
The back nine has more of a Carolinas Low Country feel, with beautiful oak trees and tall pines providing the framing. One large body of water comes into play on 15, 16 and 17, demanding accuracy.
Nearly every green complex has closely-mown fringe areas, allowing for a variety of shot selections when players miss the green.
“Timacuan is a semi-private golf club with a private-club feel,” said General Manager Tony Johnson. “Our visiting guests receive the same first-class treatment as our members. That’s one of the reasons we see the same players return year after year during the season. They seem to love the service, and the uniqueness of the layout at Timacuan.”
