GILBERT, AZ. (June 12, 2008) – Player’s Pass, a national company that markets a discount golf membership program featuring half-price and reduced fee golf at golf courses nationwide, announced the appointment of John Russell as Ambassador in the Orlando region. Russell is another in a series of Ambassadors that are being appointed across the country.

The Ambassador program is part of the effort by Player’s Pass to establish a national direct marketing campaign. Until recently, Player’s Pass was sold primarily by high school student athletes as a fundraising vehicle. Now, with the establishment of the direct marketing program, the general public can receive those same discounts by purchasing a Player’s Pass membership through the website at www.playerspass.com, at golf retail outlets and golf courses in numerous cities.

Russell, as Ambassador in the Orlando region, will service area golf courses affiliated with Player’s Pass and work directly with members and prospective members at a series of events throughout the year. Additionally, he will present the Player’s Pass program to courses throughout the Orlando region, giving course owners, managers and golf professionals the opportunity to affiliate with the popular Player’s Pass.

Russell brings a strong sales background to Player’s Pass. But like many Ambassadors, it was his passion for the game of golf that lead him to seek the position of a Player’s Pass Ambassador. “Employing John’s skills will prove to be extremely valuable in promoting Player’s Pass.” said Mears. “He was a paying member of Player’s Pass prior to accepting the position as Ambassador, and we are glad to have him on the team.”

“I want to combine what I did professionally with what I love to do recreationally. This is a career opportunity that I have been searching for in my life. It doesn’t feel like work, when you are doing something that you love to do,” said Russell. “This is the passion that will make Russell a highly motivated Player’s Pass Ambassador, the type of individual that we want representing Player’s Pass,” added Mears.

Andy Mears, President of Player’s Pass and a member of the Growth of the Game Committee in the Michigan Section PGA, realizes the value of having golf-savvy Ambassadors in place throughout the country. Russell’s background in Sales and Marketing and love of golf make him a natural as a Player’s Pass Ambassador.

“The Ambassadors will be our field force of golf-knowledgeable representatives who will build relations with the courses as well as the golfers,” said Mears. “They are another part of our focus to grow the game of golf, and make it more enjoyable and affordable for people. They will carry out our objective of getting people to play more golf for less money.”

Mears will continue hiring and training a number of Player’s Pass Ambassadors and local representatives in key cities, to bring the program to the grass roots level.

Since 2001, Player’s Pass has helped over 425,000 golfers save money on their rounds of golf and has raised more than $7 million for high school athletic programs and junior golf development.

Player’s Pass is a division of Varsity Gold, a Gilbert, Arizona based company founded in 1988 that every year helps more than 15,000 high school athletic teams, elementary and middle schools and raises nearly $50 million to fund programs. Player’s Pass, which promotes expanded participation at golf facilities nationwide through a discount program, is sold through Varsity Gold’s fundraising organization, as well as via direct marketing. Details are available at www.playerspass.com.
