CRYSTAL RIVER, FL (June 24, 2008) – Plantation Golf Resort & Spa in Crystal River, FL is now certified “green”. The Resort is the newest member of The Florida Green Lodging Program (FGLP), sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection.
The FGLP, certifies hotels, resorts, motels, and bed & breakfast inns around the state that show a dedication to protecting the environment. Established in 2004, it is a voluntary, non-regulatory program designed to acknowledge and reward environmentally conscious facilities in the lodging industry.
In July 2007, to encourage conservation in the workplace, Gov. Charlie Crist signed an executive order in directing state agencies to use Green Lodging-certified establishments for meetings and conferences.
“The Green Lodging Program is an example of our firm commitment to reducing the effects of global climate change in our great state,” said Crist.
Plantation Golf Resort & Spa decided to follow the Governor’s lead.
“Nestled in beautiful Citrus County, with manatee at our back door, we felt that being environmentally conscious was the right move for us,” stated Gilles Arditi, Regional Vice President of Operations for the Plantation Golf Resort & Spa. “We hope that other businesses in Crystal River follow our lead in becoming green.”
According to a survey by the Travel Industry Association of America, 54 million adults noted that they were inclined to book with travel companies that strive to protect and preserve the local environment of the destination.
“Eco-tourism is a fast-growing sector of Florida tourism; therefore, we are doing our part for the state, and our future generations, while at the same time attracting new guests to Plantation Golf Resort,” said Arditi.
As part of recent renovations, Plantation began to use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) throughout the hotel; installed low flow toilets, showerheads and faucets; and implemented a linen and towel reuse program.
