Free weekend-long lifestyle event brings nationwide six-event tour series to a close
Orlando, Fla., (June 23, 2008) – Golfweek, the publication preferred by serious golfers, finished its popular 2008 Golfest series on a high note with the success of Golfweek’s Golfest Connecticut, held June 14-15 at TPC River Highlands. The free event, which was held in conjunction with the PGA Tour’s 2008 Travelers Championship, attracted more than 2,500 attendees and was the final stop in the series’ six-event tour around the country.
“Our 2008 series has been an overwhelming success, attracting nearly 20,000 attendees,” said Armand Cimaroli, Golfweek’s director of events. “It’s been a great venue for growing the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2009 schedule this fall.”
In addition to kicking off the grand opening of the driving range at TPC River Highlands and the weeklong activities for the Travelers Championship, Golfweek’s Golfest Connecticut marked the close of the 2008 Golfweek’s Golfest schedule, which attracted 18,000 attendees overall with a line up that also included stops in such major markets as Orlando, Fla.; The Villages, Fla.; Beaumont, Texas; Savannah, Ga.; and Chicago, Ill.
“Golfest is so much more than a demo day. The event offers a festival atmosphere that both entertains and educates participants to create a truly unique golf experience,” said Terry Olson, vice president and publisher of Golfweek. “More importantly, the Golfest series introduces the game to non-golfers while providing an outlet for golf’s best customers to purchase the latest in golf technology.”
Launched in 2003, Golfweek’s Golfest has grown to become the largest outdoor consumer golf festival in the United States. The multi-city golf lifestyle event series not only offers attendees the opportunity to test and purchase the latest golf equipment, but also provides ample activities to keep golfers of all ages entertained. Festival highlights include trick shot shows, hourly prize drawings, exciting Fun Zone games and contests, celebrity appearances and retail tents with onsite sales assistance.
