Florida State All-America to debut as pro at Barclays Scottish Open
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 27, 2008) -The highest-ranked foreign-born collegiate player in 2008, Jonas Blixt, who went 4-0-0 in last week’s Palmer Cup, has turned professional and signed a management agreement with Gaylord Sports Management. Ben Harrison, who will handle the account, helped secure Blixt’s first professional appearance, at the Barclays Scottish Open July 10-13.
Blixt, 24, is from Hammaro, Sweden. He graduated in May with a degree in Multinational Business Operations after four years at Florida State University. The individual winner in the 2007 ACC Championship, Blixt this season had five top-5 finishes and led the Seminoles to their first ACC Championship team victory. Ranked eighth nationally in Division I, he was named a first-team All America, made the inaugural All Nicklaus Team and led the European team to victory in his second straight Palmer Cup appearance.
“We are thrilled that Jonas has selected us as his management group,” said Harrison. “He is a fine young man with a great deal of talent and represents a real stride toward GSM developing a more global client base. I look forward to helping Jonas achieve all of his goals both on and off the golf course.”
Following the Barclays Scottish Open Blixt will play the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational July 21-27 and pursue his options on the U.S. and European tours.
“I almost turned pro last year,” said Blixt, “but now is the right time to take this step. Ben and Gaylord are a trustworthy team. They represent a lot of good clients and I wanted to be a part of that.”
