Itasca, IL (June 30, 2008) – Kenny Perry is on fire this season. This weekend at the Buick Open at Warwick Hills, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Perry continued his streak, winning the tournament at 19 under par for a score of 269 using the Zero Friction Golf Tee. The victory wasn’t easy for Perry this weekend, seeing as though he had to wait on the putters of Woody Austin and Bubba Watson, of whom finished 2nd and 3rd in the tournament respectively and were in the two final groups of the day. The victory was sweet, considering Perry accomplished a major goal he had set for this season of playing in the Ryder Cup in his home state of Kentucky. Perry is now ranked fourth in the Ryder Cup Standings for the U.S. Team. The Ryder Cup begins on September 16th, and although Perry has a spot in the match on the U.S. Team, he was quoted that he intends on finishing the tournaments that he is already scheduled to play in.
This win at the Buick Open was his second Buick Open win and his 11th career victory. Beginning on May 18, 2008, this has been a long, very successful 41 day stretch for Perry, achieving 4 top ten finishes. Perry has a new goal of winning the FedEx Cup in the PGA Tour Playoffs and if this weekend is any indication of how that will go for him, he will be just fine. Currently, Perry is ranked 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings, moving up 2 spots since last week with a total of 15,933 points, only 7 points behind second place contestant, Phil Mickelson.
