DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 2, 2008 – The Duramed FUTURES Tour announced today that it will donate $7,000 to the Junior League of Cedar Rapid (JLCR) to help assist flood relief efforts in the community of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
One month ago, the Duramed FUTURES Tour announced a new tournament in Cedar Rapids for years 2009 and 2010. Shortly after the announcement, the city suffered severe damage to its downtown area and to one of its hospitals, as well as throughout the community when heavy rains raised the levels of local rivers and flooded the area.
“We want to help as much as we can to provide the Cedar Rapids community with funds to rebuild, but more importantly, show our support of the relief efforts,” said Zayra F. Calderon, CEO of the Duramed FUTURES Tour. “The Junior League of Cedar Rapids has put so much effort and time into bringing a tournament to the city and now the city is dealing with the recent flooding. The Junior League and the city has reached out to us, and now we want to reach out and help them.”
The Duramed FUTURES Tour is contributing $5,000 and the LPGA Foundation has pledged $2,000 for the combined donation. In addition, all 2008 player fines based on violations within the Duramed FUTURES Tour’s Rules and Regulations will now be earmarked for the Junior League of Cedar Rapids 2008 Flood Relief Fund.
The June disaster was the worst flood in Iowa’s history. And with numerous businesses and individuals affected, JLCR is attempting to determine which non-profit entities have been affected and which groups need assistance.
“It is very humbling to know that people from across the country, many with no ties to Iowa, are reaching out to our community,” said Charity Tyler, co-tournament director of the Iowa event and JLCR President. “It’s really neat to see the Duramed FUTURES Tour and LPGA take an interest and put forth money in rebuilding Cedar Rapids and wanting to be a part of our relief and rebuilding effort.”
