Old Junior Golf President Joe Kelly is New Again

For Joe Kelly, a longtime Las Vegas PGA of America professional who now operates the three Las Vegas golf courses at Golf Summerlin, giving back to the game of golf has been a lifelong pursuit. Kelly has managed and worked at several Las Vegas golf courses over the last few decades, and during that time has been involved in many big events and causes, but possibly his most rewarding accomplishment was being one of several people who helped create the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association. Around 1976, Kelly, along with Joe Lepire, Jr., Scott Greer, Tim Webster, Dick Huff, and others, created the organization that focused on offering competitive tournaments for the area’s best junior golfers. Now, some 30 years later, Kelly, who took some time away from his volunteer efforts to focus on family and business, is back with The First Tee of Southern Nevada, and is very pleased to have come full circle.

Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort Hosts 2nd Annual Classic

The Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, the home of three Pete Dye-designed Las Vegas golf courses, will host the second annual Las Vegas Paiute Amateur Golf Classic on August 31 and September 1, 2008. This Las Vegas amateur golf tournament is open to all Las Vegas golfers, both locals and visitors. The Las Vegas golf event will be played on the original Las Vegas golf course at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, Snow Mountain, a golf course that has secured 4.5 stars from Golf Digest. All of the event’s defending champions from the inaugural event are scheduled to be back to play again, including the Men’s 2007 Gross Champion, Gary Carpendale. “I look forward to playing again … first class courses and a first class event,” says Carpendale. Golfers from Nevada, Arizona and California competed in 2007, and head pro Greg Wickensimer expects a large turnout for this year’s tournament. Click here to sign up for the 2008 tournament.

Rhodes Ranch and Tuscany Are Typical Robinson Gems

Las Vegas golf courses Rhodes Ranch Golf Club and Tuscany Golf Club are both designed by the late–but legendary–golf course architect Ted Robinson. The two courses are typical Robinson style with wide fairways that help keep errant shots in play, but offer plenty of challenge around the greens and on the par 3 holes. View the official photo gallery of Rhodes Ranch Golf Club now. Also, you can sign up for the official Rhodes Ranch email list that mails Las Vegas golf deals and offers. Or you can also join the Tuscany Golf Club grapevine email list. View the official Tuscany Golf Club photo gallery now. Read an article about the design philosophy of Ted Robinson. Rhodes Ranch and Tuscany are sister courses, and you can earn a special bounceback rate if you play both of the courses. Click now for more info on the bounceback special and other rates. Rates start as low as $55 (twilight) for this summer.
