WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Proving that some golfing couples who play together, stay together, a full field of twosomes is expected for the 16th annual couples tournament at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, Nov. 3 – 4. The Golden Horseshoe is part of Colonial Williamsburg’s Resort Collection located adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area.
Defending champions Sandy Scitti and Art Jakovics last year won for a record fourth time, but since no team has repeated since 1997, a new champion could be predicted for 2008.
The Golden Horseshoe couples tournament is 36 holes of stroke play that utilizes both the Gold Course and Green Course. The first round is four-ball (two-person, best ball), with the team’s gross and net scores used; the second round is “captain’s choice,” with gross and net scores used. Teams will be flighted by total handicap. Handicaps will be verified with players’ home courses prior to the tournament.
The entry fee of $470 per couple includes practice rounds on both courses, two tournament rounds, golf carts for tournament rounds, tee gifts, prizes, welcome reception, tournament banquet and closing reception. Entry deadline is Oct. 27, 2008, at 5 p.m.
