(BLOOMFIELD, CT) – Wintonbury Hills Golf Course – a Billy Casper Golf-managed facility in Bloomfield, CT – earned a No. 10 ranking in Golfweek’s Best “Top 30 Municipal Courses” across America, joining U.S. Open hosts Torrey Pines (CA) and Bethpage Black (NY), among other storied layouts, inside the Top 10.
Wintonbury Hills finished higher in the Golfweek’s Best rankings than several host courses of PGA TOUR and other professional tournaments. The legendary Pete Dye’s first design in New England, Wintonbury Hills’ 6,711-yard, par-70 layout presents stunning vistas of the heavily-treed ridges surrounding the property. The layout boasts a blend of links-style holes and a forested look that typifies golf in Connecticut. With generous rolling fairways to help navigate 125 bunkers framing the course, Wintonbury Hills presents fair challenges to golfers of all skill levels.
“The Town of Bloomfield is very proud to be the owner of this award-winning golf course,” says Louie Chapman, Jr., Town Manager. “Our residents are to be congratulated for having the foresight in approving the purchase and construction of the Wintonbury Hills Golf Course.”
“The Golfweek list contains some of the most beautiful and stimulating courses in the country,” says Doug Juhasz, General Manager of Wintonbury Hills. “For Wintonbury Hills to achieve this ranking speaks volumes about the terrific Pete Dye design and is indicative of our providing superior customer experiences from tee to green.”
More to Wintonbury Hills’ credit, the course is designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International for protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of golf. Following the conservation group’s approved steps for an environmentally-friendly golf course helps Wintonbury Hills reduce waste and promote efficient operations. The program also results in the course’s reduction of maintenance costs, including those associated with insurance premiums, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
“The course, as designed by Pete Dye, attracts a great deal of wildlife in addition to golfers, and achieving the designation of ‘Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary’ by Audubon International for protecting the environment is testament to Bloomfield’s commitment to conservation,” says Jonathan Colman, Chair of the Bloomfield Town Council Golf Committee. “We are honored to be placed in the same category of municipal courses as Bethpage and Torrey Pines. We urge people from around the country to come experience the Town of Bloomfield and Wintonbury Hills Golf Course.”
Other accolades for Wintonbury Hills include:
