U.S. Bank Champion Wins After Switching to Adams Driver
PLANO, TEXAS, July 21, 2008 – The British Open at Royal Birkdale marked the third straight major championship that Adams Golf hybrids have topped the official equipment count provided by the Darrell Survey. There were more Adams Golf hybrids in play at Royal Birkdale than the next two companies, combined. In fact, Adams Golf accounted for over 32% of all the hybrids in play last week.
Several of the top contenders at the Open Championship relied on the precision of their Idea hybrids to help navigate through the extremely tough conditions. Idea hybrids were in the bags of, among others, a third-place finisher and two seventh-place finishers.
Adams Golf has now had the #1 Hybrid at 24 of the 32 tournaments on the 2008 PGA Tour schedule, including all three major championships. So far, an average of 30 Adams Golf hybrids have been put in play at PGA Tour events in 2008 compared to an average of 23 hybrids from the next closest competitor. The Open Championship was one of four tournaments last week that Adams Golf won the hybrid count; including the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, the 3M Championship and the Price Cutter Charity Championship.
U.S. Bank Championship
After switching to the new Insight 9015D Prototype driver two weeks ago at the John Deere Classic, last week’s U.S. Bank Champion had this to say during his press conference after the third round: “I struggled a little bit with my equipment this year, and I swapped drivers a couple weeks ago, which makes a huge difference for me. I just got my confidence up.”
Claiming his first career win after 150 events on the PGA Tour, the new champ showed that improved driving statistics can pay huge dividends. Ranking near 200th for most of the season in Driving Distance, he averaged 291.9 yards with the new driver in Milwaukee, good enough for a ranking of 46. And in the Driving Accuracy category, he’s hovered around the 100th position this season, but ranked 11th among the players in the field at the U.S. Bank Championship.
