Brentwood, Tennessee, July 22, 2008 … PrideSports, the country’s only wooden golf tee manufacturer and the world’s leading producer of golf tees, has reported that the Professional Tee System™ (PTS), the world’s #1 selling golf tee brand, dominated both the PGA and LPGA Tour events this past weekend, as an overwhelming majority of players chose to use PTS over competing performance tees.
The Professional Tee System™ (PTS) was created in order to keep up with the ever changing trends in the golfing equipment industry. As club head sizes on standard drivers began to increase in the 90s, it became more and more important for golfers to be able to tee the ball up higher. Teeing the ball up higher gives both the professional and amateur golfer the perfect height to reach the “sweet spot” for their driver. These longer tees needed to be reinforced from breakage and PrideSports has led the way in not only longer, but also thicker diameter golf tees. The resulting advantage is the ability to choose a tee size that will be appropriate for a larger driver head and is more durable allowing for repeat usage.
PrideSports combined the various tee lengths with an identification system to reduce the confusion of picking the wrong size tee out of a mess of tees in the golfer’s bag. Now, the 2?” golf tee – the former 100-year standard – is called Shortee™. It is offered in a red color band and is perfect for irons and low profile hybrids, or fairway woods. The 2¾” tee, now called ProLength™, features a yellow color band and is ideal for most 3 and 5 woods and drivers up to 360cc. ProLength Plus™, a 3¼” tee, is best for today’s super oversize drivers and comes in a blue color band. In addition, ProLength MAX™, PrideSports’ largest tee offering, is a 4″ tee that features a green color band and is the longest tee allowed by the USGA.
“We are thrilled with the outstanding number of players on both the PGA and LPGA Tours that continually choose the Professional Tee System to achieve the best results,” said John Hohman, Director of Marketing, PrideSports. “All other performance tees combined can’t compete with PTS, as we consistently have the highest usage percentage from week to week.”
PrideSports was formed in January 2003 following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes, Inc., and its sister company Trisport, Ltd. of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
