Athletes Will Compete in Skills Competition on July 26
(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) – SouthWood Golf Club – the award-winning public course at the heart of one of Tallahassee’s most comprehensively designed communities – will host the Special Olympics Leon County Golf Area Games on Saturday, July 26.
Special Olympics athletes from Leon County will compete at a variety of golf skills, including driving, iron shots, chipping and putting on SouthWood’s practice facilities. The top overall scorer will be eligible to advance to the state competition, held September 12-13 at Legends Golf and Country Club in Clermont, Fla.
Competition begins at 5 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 6:15 in the SouthWood clubhouse.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. More than 2.25 million Special Olympics athletes compete in some 150 countries.
