2008 U. S. Amateur Public Links Champion was as hot on the greens as the Colorado temperature during the 36-hole finals July 19th at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora winning 5 & 3. He contributed his championship success to his putting in all his matches.
During the morning round of the finals, he made birdie putts on holes No. 14,15,16 and 18 to secure a one-up lead going into the afternoon. The champion pretty much sealed the match with a 4-footer on the 28th hole to go 3 up.
The newly crowned Public Links champion used a Mitchell Golf CNC milled putter, center-shafted CS model. He has used this putter since last fall, when Mitchell Golf owner and PGA Professional, Ed Mitchell fit him.
One of the first things Sam Puryear, newly appointed coach of the Michigan State University golf team did last fall was to contract Mitchell Golf to analyze the specifications of each player’s equipment and make recommendations and adjustments to enhance their performance.
