Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame to Induct Four in 2008
Committee members of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame are working to promote and honor some of the great Las Vegas golf history by inducting four new members into the newly-named Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame. PGA Tour champion and record holder Tommy Armour III, legendary Las Vegas PGA of America professional Jerry Roberts, successful amateur champion Louis Redden, and amateur champion and course operator Eric Dutt will be inducted in a ceremony on October 14 that coincides with the PGA Tour’s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. “The Las Vegas name is very powerful, and creating the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame reflects the magnitude of what the recognition means to inductees, in addition to capturing the vision that the committee has to promote, honor, and preserve the deep history-and exciting future–of golf in the Las Vegas area,” says Jack Sheehan, committee member, best-selling author and a person who has covered golf in Las Vegas for three decades.

Justin Timberlake Jumping in Full Force for Vegas PGA Tour Event
Looking in from the outside, it appears Justin Timberlake, one of the world’s reigning superstars, dives into each new project with dedication and commitment. Just this year he has hosted ESPN’s ESPY awards, appeared in a movie, toured, played in the Golf Digest U.S Open Challenge at Torrey Pines, and, oh yeah, jumped in as the host of his own PGA Tour event, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open to be played at Las Vegas golf course TPC Summerlin October 13-19. And word from those close to the planning for this year’s JT Open are reporting that Timberlake is going above and beyond expectations, and is jumping in at every level to help ensure big success for the tournament. Timberlake has donated cash from his own check book to support the event, made calls to big-name players to persuade them to play Vegas, and plans to play in two pro-celebrity amateur events during the week.

Adam Scott, Tommy Armour III Play in PGA Championship
The PGA Championship tees off Thursday, August 7, and there will be five players with deep ties to Las Vegas golf courses in the field, and one hoping to get into the field. The event is being played Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan and former UNLV golfer Adam Scott and Tommy Armour III, who grew up in Las Vegas, are in the field, as are two other former Rebel golfers, Chad Cambpell and Ryan Moore, in addition to current resident Dean Wilson. Another former UNLV player, Charley Hoffman, is an alternate and hopes to get into the field if somebody falls out before tee off. Scott is reportedly again battling an illness or injury at a major but was seen out practicing with Las Vegas pro Butch Harmon earlier this week so should be ready to go. Scott, one of the world’s best players, battled a high fever at last week’s World Golf Championship event at Firestone, and he struggled with a hand injury earlier this year at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
