Idea Hybrids Top Hybrid Equipment Count at all Four Majors
PLANO, TEXAS, August 11, 2008 – Adams Golf completed the equipment version of the “Grand Slam” by winning the hybrid count at last week’s PGA Championship, the fourth and final major of the year. The Idea hybrids from Adams Golf (NasdaqCM:ADGF) accounted for over 31% of the total number of hybrids in play at Oakland Hills Country Club, according to the Darrell Survey.
Along with winning the count at all four majors, Adams Golf has won the hybrid count at 28 of the 36 events on the PGA Tour schedule. Among the top manufacturers, 1,083 Adams hybrids have been put in play in 2008 compared to 854 from the next closest competitor. At the four major championships, the total amount of Adams hybrids played (113) nearly outnumbered the combined total of the second and third-place hybrid brands (116).
“Having the #1 hybrid played at all four majors is a tremendous accomplishment for our company and reinforces our position as the leader in hybrid design and performance,” said Max Puglielli, director of tour operations for Adams Golf. “Our success in the hybrid category has resonated, not only with an increasing number of tour pros asking to play our clubs each week, but also with the average golfer as he or she shops for new equipment. Having the #1 hybrid played on tour is something we’re very proud of and we hope to continue building upon the momentum.”
As more players put Idea hybrids in their bags each week, several are trusting the performance of these hybrids as they make their way into the winner’s circle. Idea hybrids have been in the bags of eight PGA Tour winners this year, with the most recent coming at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational where the champion played a 19-degree Idea a3 Boxer hybrid. Adams has also built a significant equipment presence on the Nationwide and Champions Tour having won every hybrid count for the past two years on both tours.
