VASTERAS, SWEDEN – PuttingZone student Amy Yang, who only turned 19 two weeks ago, has won the Scandinavian TPC hosted by Annika Sorenstam on the Ladies European Tour (LET), firing rounds of 71-69-63 to finish six shots clear of the field, spoiling Sorenstam’s final pro event in Sweden. Amy is coached by PuttingZone’s Bruce Howard and has a putts-per-hole stat of 1.64 that ranks 12th on the LET.
Over the three rounds of the Scandinavian TPC, Amy averaged 26.5 putts per round and only 1.47 putts per hole. In 2008, Amy has notched eight top-10 finishes (seven are top-5 finishes) in 12 starts and has won twice (German Ladies Masters and Scandinavian TPC).
In the final round at the Frosaker Golf Club, Yang started four strokes back but fired a stellar 63, having birdied seven of 10 holes from the third to move atop the leaderboard. The South Korean stayed there, finishing with birdies on the last three holes. Her only bogey came on the second hole. Yang tied the course record (63) set earlier in the day by Minea Blomqvist of Finland, who shared second.
This was the 19-year-old Yang’s second win as a pro, following the Ladies German Open in early June. She also won the ANZ Ladies Masters as a 16-year-old high school student in 2006, becoming the first amateur to win a major women’s professional golf tournament in Australia.
