Proceeds Support the Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation and the Waikoloa Foundation
WAIKOLOA, Big Island of Hawaii (August 13, 2008) – Waikoloa Beach Resort, located on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii, will host the 7th Annual Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge, November 7-9, 2008. This boutique-style Women’s only golf event attracts ladies from the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland. The event is widely considered to be one of the premier ladies only tournaments, and includes three days of fun, cheer and golf in one of world’s most beautiful destinations.
“We are very excited to continue the proud tradition of hosting the Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge at Waikoloa Beach Resort. The ladies are always treated to a great time in a terrific Hawaiian island setting” said Scott Head, Director of Golf for Waikoloa Beach Resort. “The event’s mission has always been about mixing the spirit of camaraderie, competition, and Aloha. We’ll do it again this year with renewed energy.”
The festivities begin Friday, November 7th with the Welcome Reception & Draw Party at the host hotel, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, where tournament participants will be treated to first-class accommodations and amenities overlooking one of Hawaii’s most stunning beachfront settings on Anaeho’omalu Bay.
Tournament play, with two-person teams, begins Saturday, November 8th, and concludes on Sunday, November 9th, at the Kings’ Course. Saturday’s first round, a shamble (a modified scramble) event, will be followed by a Champagne luncheon at the Kings’ Grille. On Sunday, the tournament will culminate with a low-net best-ball format, followed by an awards luncheon at the Kings’ Grille.
Among the special attractions at the Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge will be Waikoloa’s LPGA Touring Professional Cindy Rarick. Rarick will bring her charismatic personality to the evening functions and will share her abundant golf knowledge by providing a golf clinic for the women.
“Waikoloa is my home away from home. It is always a treat for me to spend some time on property. And I enjoy being a part of one of the premier Women’s golf events and making new friends,” Rarick said. “I have fun sharing some of the positive experiences the game of golf has brought me both on tour and off.”
The Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge also supports two worthy causes: the non-profit Waikoloa Foundation and the Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation. The tournament has raised over $28,000 in recent years for these organizations. The Waikoloa Foundation was formed in 1987 to perpetuate the Hawaiian Culture and the Hawaiian Environment by encouraging the offering of authentic Hawaiian experiences to visitors and residents. The Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation’s mission is to promote golf among girls and women by providing financial aid for local tournaments and championships, qualifying rounds for national events, and golf workshops, clinics and seminars.
