Company’s YS Series Builds on Remarkable Decade-Long Success
(SAN DIEGO, California) – The winners of the Champions Tour’s Jeld-Wen Tradition and the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship used Graphite Design YS series shaft models en route to victory, according to the Darrell Survey.
The Tradition champion claimed his first major title playing Graphite Design’s YS-7 shaft in his 3-wood. The player, a longtime user of the shaft, conquered the punishing (7,683 yards) Crosswater course at Oregon’s Sunriver Resort with a four-round total of 19-under par.
At the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, the winner played Graphite Design’s YS-6 shaft in his 3-wood while earning a two-shot victory. The runner-up also played Graphite Design models, as did six top-nine finishers in all. The company’s YS series and Pershing model were among those favored by the top finishers to tackle Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
“Our YS shafts continue to prove their mettle in professional golf, as they have throughout this decade,” said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. “The superior design and construction behind these shafts has been the key to their unprecedented success, even as club technology has advanced rapidly. Graphite Design builds every shaft with the goal of helping golfers, from professionals to beginners, maximize their distance and accuracy.”
Graphite Design – maker of some of the most widely played premium shafts on the PGA TOUR – recently introduced its Tour AD Throttle shaft designed with the company’s innovative Axial Composite Interlace (ACI) technology for strong golfers with aggressive, high-speed swings. Earlier this year, Graphite Design unveiled its Tour AD YSQ shaft delivering superior performance in four key areas: launch angle, spin rate, accuracy and distance.
In 2007, Graphite Design shaft models propelled professionals to a combined 45 victories on the PGA, Nationwide, Champions, Japan and LPGA tours. Among those relying on Graphite Design shafts were the world’s No. 3-ranked men’s player, the No. 4 women’s player, the winner of the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Cup points title, and seven of the top eight money earners on the Japan Tour. Graphite Design reinforced its dominance on the Japan Tour, where it has claimed 158 consecutive graphite wood shaft brand counts — an unprecedented streak which dates to 2002. On the PGA TOUR, Graphite Design shafts have helped professionals earn 54 victories and more than $290 million since 2004.
