Patriotic Driver is Customized Version of the New r7 Limited Line: Latest Generation of r7 Driver Combines a New Head Shape with Movable Weight Technology to Promote 35 Yards of Side-to-Side Trajectory Change
CARLSBAD, Calif. (August 21st, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company, the No. 1 driver brand in golf, unveiled the model of the Patriot Golf Day driver: the r7® Limited – the next driver in the r7 lineage that features Movable Weight Technology™ and a remarkable boost in performance.
The specially-designed r7 Limited driver for Patriot Golf Day features the Patriot Golf Day logo on the toe, the image of an F-16 jet etched onto the sole, and a specially-designed headcover in red, white and blue. Each driver will be packaged in a commemorative Patriot Golf Day box and displayed at participating Patriot Golf Day courses where consumers can bid on them beginning this week. Net proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation which provides educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
“The Patriot Golf Day initiative is fantastic and Major Dan Rooney’s passion and commitment to the cause is inspiring,” said Mark King, president and CEO of TaylorMade-adidas Golf. “In supporting Patriot Golf Day to the fullest, we are glad to provide our flagship product to help raise as much money as possible for the families of servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.”
Each r7 Limited Patriot Golf Day driver promotes a change of 35 yards, and does so with only three weights weighing 16-grams, 1-gram and 1-gram. The r7 Limited also incorporates a new, modern and beautiful clubhead shape. Reminiscent of a triangle, with soft corners for a pleasing appearance, the head is faster-looking than any r7 driver head before it, and the address footprint is exceptionally large, giving it a substantial and confidence-inspiring appearance. All Patriot Golf Day drivers are right-handed with 9.5 loft and equipped with a new high-performance 60-gram REAX graphite stiff shaft. Learn more about the r7 Limited driver.
“TaylorMade is well-known as the leading driver in golf and it’s amazing that they’ve contributed to Patriot Golf Day by providing the r7 Limited – their newest and best driver ever – before it’s even available at retail,” said Major Rooney. “TaylorMade has really stepped up in helping us raise additional funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation. We can’t thank them enough.”
Patriot Golf Day is supported by The PGA of America and is the vision of Major Dan Rooney, who is both a PGA Teaching Professional and an F-16 fighter pilot in the 125th Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. It was held for the first time on September 1, 2007; more than 3,200 golf courses participated and helped raise more than $1.1 million by donating one dollar for every player who played that day. This year, Patriot Golf Day will span all four days of Labor Day weekend (Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1).
