BOULDER, Colo. – Continuing to rack up pro tour wins in their first season, premium KBS Tour steel shafts scored their 10th professional victory of the year at The KLM Open in Zandvoort, Netherlands. The win highlights an amazing debut season for the KBS steel shaft design that has attracted the attention of the some of the world’s greatest players.
A stalwart of The European Tour since 1991, this weekend’s KLM Open champion delivered a four-stroke victory playing a full set of KBS Tour steel shafts in his irons. He shot a 68-64-66-66 (264) to capture his second victory of the 2008 season and place himself with striking distance of the The Ryder Cup. Earlier this year, he won the BMW Asian Open with KBS Tour steel shafts to mark his first winning season in five years on the European Tour.
“Golfers have not seen any significant performance enhancements in steel shaft designs for at least a decade, so we stepped outside the normal parameters of club design and applied a completely new approach with our MOI analysis,” says renowned KBS shaft designer Kim Braly, whose steel designs have won every won major golf tournament in the world. “As you can imagine, the results have been phenomenal. We have achieved ten tour wins in our first year and some of the greatest players in the world asking to test the shafts. We could not have dreamed of a better kick off for these new and innovative shaft designs.”
Braly explains that a shaft’s performance is absolutely critical in order to optimize clubhead performance at the time of impact, and KBS steel shafts provide superior stability and smoothly transfer energy to the ball at impact. By reducing the mass and radius of each step in equal proportions along the shaft’s center line, the KBS Tour shaft delivers optimum stability resulting in efficient energy transfer from the player’s hands to the clubhead. In addition, the shaft design reduces shaft ‘interference’ during the swing which means greater performance with every shot.
Manufactured by FEMCO Steel Technology (FST), KBS Tour steel shafts incorporate high-quality precision manufacturing processes which include: Exclusive ‘Oil-Quench’ tempering method that produces ‘arrow-straight’ shafts from butt to tip; Tapered tip construction that provides a solid metal-to-metal bond in the hosel and tour-proven feel; higher-than-traditional center of gravity construction that allows for more clubhead mass; and matching shaft weight and frequency to strict tolerances that ensures peak playing performance and guaranteed repeatability.
So far, premium KBS steel shafts have won The KLM Open, Memorial Tournament, Buick Open, John Deere Classic and U.S. Bank Open on the PGA Tour and the Portugal Masters, BMW Asian Open, Open de Espana, Bank Austria Open and Sega Sammy Cup on the other pro tours.
