Highly-anticipated Arnold Palmer Signature course opens for play Sept. 4
MUSTANG ISLAND, Texas, Aug. 27, 2008 – The newly-constructed Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course at Newport Beach and Golf, an 1,800-acre resort community on Texas’ Mustang Island, will open its doors for play Sept. 4 and will host a grand opening event on Oct. 18. The 18-hole layout, named Newport Dunes, is part of the first phase of construction at the coastal destination, which will bring residential villages, multiple hotels, a marina, tennis and beach clubs, two golf courses and other premium amenities to Mustang Island, located on the south end of Port Aransas.
Of the more than 300 golf courses and clubs worldwide, Newport Dunes is golf icon and course designer Arnold Palmer’s first seaside golf destination. Palmer visited the course during its construction to meet with resort developers Craig Millard and Charles Castor of Texas Gulf & Harbor Ltd. remarking that, “the course is a hidden gem that is certainly going to draw some attention from local, regional and national golfers alike.”
“The unveiling of this golf course marks a milestone in the evolution of the Newport Beach and Golf community,” said Craig Millard. “We look forward to providing a premier links-style golf experience to Mustang Island.”
Newport Dunes, surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay, plays to a par 71 while providing outstanding vistas and ornamental landscapes. Managed by KemperSports, the course features steep-faced, Scottish-style bunkers, uninterrupted waterfront views, movement in the fairways and scenic lakes set along the seaside.
