Wilson Staff Introduces Powerful and Forgiving Di9 Iron for 2009

September 2, 2008

Di9 irons features low profile and wide-sole design for more distance, high MOI and larger sweet spot for more accuracy, and urethane shock traps for more feel

CHICAGO, Aug. 27, 2008 – Since 1911, Wilson Golf engineers and designers have developed and designed more irons than any other golf company in the world, with 61 major championships being won with Wilson irons, more than any other iron in history. To further establish its stronghold in the iron category, Wilson Staff introduces the Wilson Staff Di9, a technology-driven combination of power and forgiveness with a high MOI head design and urethane shock-traps, delivering softer feel and longer distance.

The Di9 iron features an increased hosel length, yielding a higher MOI and more stable head, marking Wilson Staff’s highest MOI iron on the market. The toe-friendly cavity design expands the club’s sweet spot toward the toe and shifts the center of gravity toward the outside of the head for increased forgiveness.

To minimize vibrations on miss-hits, the Di9 irons feature a soft urethane shock-trap inserted into the heel of the club for stability. Wilson Staff’s patented Wide-Tip Technology shafts prevent the club head from twisting on off-center hits, while the lightweight shafts deliver higher club head speed for further distance. At 99 grams, this is the lightest wide-tip shaft that Wilson Golf has ever produced.

The Di9 features Wilson Staff’s innovative distance gapping system, a 3.5 degree loft strategy. Most irons on the market have small, two degree gaps in longer irons, but up to six degree gaps in short irons. The Di9 iron configuration incorporates a Second Gap, or Approach Wedge, to ensure smooth gapping among the shorter irons and consistent yardage gaps between clubs.

The Di9s are the next generation in irons, building on the award-winning Di7 series which won Golf Digest magazine’s 2007 Hot List Gold Award. They were also featured in GOLF magazine’s 2007 ClubTest winner list and received Golfing Magazine’s 2008 Player’s Choice Award.
